Assocham survey found 76% Underage Kids in India Use YouTube

Associated Chambers of Commerce of India (Assocham) survey found on Monday that 95% of the teens aged between 13 to 17 years access the Internet while 76% of kids below the age of 13 use YouTube a video-streaming website everyday.

The Indian government’s says One is required to be of above 18 years of age to open an account on YouTube.

The survey was covering 4,750 parents of children aged 6 to 13 years in metropolitan cities including Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kolkata, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Pune, Chandigarh, Dehradun and Lucknow.

According to survey besides these clearly stated and published age restrictions a large number of Indian children aged between 7-13 are using social media with their parents consent.

Survey also says that social media networking sites are used by 81% of the teenagers while 72% of them log into social media sites more than one time everyday. A 65% of the kids aged below 13 used social media sites and 76% of the children below 13 have a YouTube account while 51% of them also have a Smartphone. The most watched videos on YouTube are music videos.

According to survey, It has more Indian viewers ages 18 to 49 just on mobile than any cable network.

D.S. Rawat who is an Assocham Secretary General said “Over one-third, 35% of the teenagers use laptops and 32% use tablets to access their favorite websites.
