On Wednesday, Facebook has introduced a new mobile app “Notify” that sends delivers timely notifications to users smartphone. However, Notify is currently available only in the U.S. on the iPhone although if it is successful it is likely to reach more platforms and countries. There are no words about availability of Facebook Notify app for Android users yet. But you can anticipate that Facebook will soon launch Android version of Notify app as million of people use Android.
“Notifications are becoming one of the primary ways people first learn about things wherever they are,” Facebook said, introducing the app.
The app counts among the latest attempts from large technology companies to provide a form of news service, which also includes Apple News, Google’s AMP and Facebook’s own Instant Articles. The app allows users to sign up for alerts on their interests such as sports, celebrities, news, movies, music or shopping.
Users will receive notifications, delivered right to lock screen, and a quick glance will keep users connected to the things that users care about throughout the day. If users want to see more, they just need to swipe or tap through any Notify notification to open the link in the app’s browser where users can read the full article.
It also allows you to share your favorite notifications with friends via text, email, Facebook or other social networks, right from your lock screen. If a notification catches your eye when you’re busy or distracted, just swipe to add it to your Saved Notifications list. You can discover all the notifications you’ve received from Notify in the last 24 hours via a convenient in-app feed so you can easily stay up to date.
Facebook is participating with about 70 content partners including big broadcasters networks such as ABC and Fox News, lifestyle publications like Bon Appétit and Thrillist, business news outlets like Bloomberg and MarketWatch, The Weather Channel and the daily deals site Groupon. Also In some cases, you can customize the alerts by your location, for things like weather or local news.
