Tarana Halim a telecommunications minister in Bangladesh on Thursday said that she has instructed Bangladesh telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to lift the ban on popular social networking site Facebook in country.
Halim revealed the information to media at 1:30 pm at a press briefing at her ministerial office. She said, “I received the government instruction just now. We are lifting the government ban on Facebook.”
Tarana Halim said although Facebook could now be accessed, but decision to lift ban on other banned social network sites like Viber, Whatsapp and other mobile Apps will be taken later.
The government ordered Facebook, WhatsApp and Viber blocked last month after two opposition leaders lost their appeals against the death penalty for war crimes committed during the 1971 independence conflict.
Bangladesh were blocked Facebook on 18 November and other social media and applications like Viber, WhatsApp, Messenger, due of the risk of a security breach has been temporarily closed said Home Minister Kamal Khan.
