Qualcomm yesterday released details about their awaited Snapdragon 820 chipset have a new charging feature dubbed Quick Charge 3.0 which will get a 38% improvement in efficiency. Qualcomm says to take a phone battery from 0 to 80 percent in about 35 minutes.
According to Qualcomm compared to Quick Charge 2.0 the new charging standard will improve fast charging up to 27% or reduce power dissipation by up to 45%. Technology behind it uses an algorithm called “Intelligent Negotiation for Optimum Voltage (INOV)” which lets the mobile devices to continually request a power level from the charger so it can be increased charge rate on a safe and efficient manner, from 3.6V to 20V, in 200mV increments and will work over USB, including new connector designs like USB Type-C.
Quick Charge 3.0 will also have 100% backward compatibility with previous versions of Quick Charge as well as with connectors including USB Type-A, USB micro, USB Type-C, and proprietary connectors.
Quick Charge 3.0 will be launched in 2016 and coming first to Snapdragon 820. This new technology also works with Snapdragon 430 617, 618 and 620 chipsets.
